Exercise of the Week: Seated Up & Down Nod

It happens to all of us. We’ve been seated too long and are likely also tense from what’s at hand for the day. Our shoulders, neck, and back often feel that tension first. Getting up occasionally and logging some steps is a great way to help ease some of that tension throughout your entire body. Add in this simple stretch, the “up & down nod” throughout the day and you’ll be likely to feel the aches in your neck and shoulders less often.

  • Sit straight in your chair, shoulders back.
  • Start by looking straight forward then slowly look towards the ceiling.
  • Stop when you are looking straight up- or sooner, if you feel any discomfort or pain.

  • You should feel a slight stretch in your neck and your shoulders.
  • Hold the position for 10-15 seconds then return to the starting position.
  • Repeat 5 times periodically throughout the day.

That’s it! Easy as can be.
