May is skin cancer awareness month. It is the most common cause of cancer in the United States and worldwide. 1 in 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. But, when caught early, the prognosis is positive. In fact, if detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent. Today we’ll share previous posts that share how to identify it and prevent it, along with two posts about the benefits of sunscreen (and how to pick the best one for you). Despite news over the past several years about some sunscreens being recalled, using it is still the easiest, most reliable way to prevent sun damage that can lead to skin cancer.
The summer is a great time to build memories with friends and loved ones, but while you enjoy the sun, make sure you protect your health too.
