Guilt-Free Holiday Cookies

A great tradition kept by many people during the holiday season is having a “cookie day,” where people gather and spend hours baking. The cookies then become gifts, or are shared during holiday festivities. What a fun way to spend time together- but can also be a tempting situation while trying to maintain a healthy diet. Here are 8 great cookie recipes that cut back on the ingredients that should be limited (or avoided), but still have great flavor.

1. Skinny Snickerdoodles:

This recipe keeps the sugar amounts low, and includes whole-wheat flour, but still makes a great, soft treat. There is also a gluten-free option available.

2. Grain-Free Maple Chocolate Biscotti

Using only a few ingredients (and healthy ones at that), this recipe is sure to satisfy with post-dinner coffee!

3. Healthy Fig Newtons:

These fig newtons are naturally sweetened (no added sugar is hard to find in a good cookie recipe!), and are also no-bake. Win-win!

4. Jam Thumbprint Cookies:

These delicious cookies are only 110 calories each- and if you are cautious about what type of jam you use, the sugar levels can be low as well.

5. Cranberry Orange Cookies:

These delicious cookies are made with light butter and Stevia (which helps cut down on the sugar intake). They come in at 62 calories a piece!

6. Carrot Spice Oatmeal Cookies:

These cookies are a bit higher on the calorie count per serving (one cookie is 181 calories), but if you only have one. . .it’s a treat worth savoring.

7. Flourless Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies:

These cookies don’t contain flour or butter, but have proved to be packed with flavor. For peanut butter and chocolate lovers alike, these are guaranteed to impress.

8. Monster Cookies:

If you can’t decide which kind of cookies to make (or eat), these have it all: chocolate, oats, peanut butter, and M&Ms. What they don’t have is flour, oil, or butter! Impressive. Make sure you save some for Santa!
